You’ll then have until the start of the Season after next to retrieve items from a shared stash stab. Once the Ladder season ends, a character transitions into non-Ladder modes with any items or loot they may have garnered. Ladder Season is essentially a ranked competitive system and will have a leaderboard along with specific content.įor this PTR test, developer is focusing on Ladder’s presentation in the front end and how the new balance changes affect it. It adds the long-awaited Ladder Season along with balance changes, bug fixes and updates for Uber Diablo. Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 2: Resurrected will see a major patch releasing on its Public Test Realm server tomorrow. Pick up my new sci-fi novel Herokiller, and read my first series, The Earthborn Trilogy, which is also on audiobook. We’re still waiting on any official word about the potential remaster from Blizzard, but as of now, this remains a rumor.įollow me on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. So a Diablo 2 remaster could straddle the line between remaster and remake, technically, due to this crazy catastrophe all those years ago. It’s an interesting hiccup to be sure, but from-scratch assets might actually end up being a benefit if they could be remade to look better than the originals. Though it may explain why Diablo is “going last” after StarCraft and Warcraft remasters being released already. ![]() ![]() After all, this happened 20 years ago, a lot of it was able to be saved, and while yes, it would be a pain to remake all the assets with no backups to draw on, that seems reasonable for a few years work, if Blizzard has known they wanted to remaster Diablo 2 for a while. So while this may make a potential Diablo 2 remaster more difficult, I certainly don’t think it’s impossible for Vicarious Visions or another studio to do so. It would make it very difficult for Blizzard to do a Diablo II remaster because all the assets we used are pretty much gone. “We lost a lot of the assets, art assets. finally rebuilt a lot of it through what people had at their homes.” We were supposed to have a backup but neglected it. This story came out last November, and had quotes from the creators of the franchise including Max and Eric Schafer, who said: In the wake of publishing, I’ve been digging a little deeper into this and have been reminded of a story from about six months ago where it was revealed that due to an error 20 years ago when Diablo 2 launched, the entire backup of the game’s source code and assets was lost. I really hope this does make it out for the holiday. So, I would lend some weight to this rumor, both because of the source, and because of common sense. No word on what the Stone of Jordan economy might be like when it returns. Given that you can still play original Diablo 2 now and get hopelessly addicted, I have to believe a proper remaster would have the same effect. We know the somewhat odd PvE expansion of Overwatch, called Overwatch 2 despite its questionable credentials as a true sequel, is on the way, but definitely not in time for this holiday.ĭiablo 4 is also on the distant horizon, and though we have seen a decent amount of footage from it, it is still likely to be a few years away, so this release would scratch that Diablo itch in the meantime. Why is this coming now? Because Blizzard, as ever, is not exactly being terribly timely with its releases.
